Bal Krishan Guru, born in Lahore in 1940, was a prominent sculptor known for his remarkable contributions to the world of art. He obtained his National Diploma in Sculpture in 1961 from Delhi Polytechnic, marking the beginning of his illustrious career. Guru's journey includes numerous accolades and achievements, showcasing his dedication to the field of fine arts.
He secured the National Cultural Scholarship in 1962, followed by the Ministry of Education-Govt. of India Award in 1964. His pursuit of excellence led him to the French Govt. Scholarship for advanced study in Fine Art in Paris from 1964 to 1965. Bal Krishan Guru received the prestigious National Award from Lalit Kala Akademi in 1963 and the President of India Award in 1964.
Serving as a lecturer at the Govt. College of Art, Chandigarh (1961-1962), Guru continued his academic endeavors as a Lecturer at Sharda Ukil School of Art, New Delhi (1966-1969). He further served as the Principal of Sarada Ukil School of Art from 1969 to 1972. His significant roles included being a member of the selection board of professors at Banaras Hindu University in 1970. Additionally, he headed the Sculpture Department at Modern School, New Delhi.
Bal Krishan Guru's artistic legacy includes commission works for the Govt. of India and collaborations with public establishments, where he executed double life-size bronze sculptures. His creations are proudly displayed in collections, museums, and art institutions in India and abroad.
